Dreams Come Alive at the Southwest School Sports Festival
The dreams of young athletes begin to take shape at the Southwest School Sports Festival. This event, which concludes on July 20th, features activities in indoor soccer, basketball, futsal, volleyball, and soccer. Today marked the end of chess, skating, athletics, and swimming competitions. Chess, known as the game of strategy, had mentors guiding and enjoying the children’s moves.
For three days now, the Southwest School Sports Games in Jericó have been a source of joy for children aged 8 to 11. Here, kids are starting to discover their favorite sports and imagine themselves as great athletes in the future.
One such aspiring athlete is Lesly Michel Tabarez, the goalkeeper for the Betulia team, which unfortunately lost 4-6 to Fredonia in indoor soccer. When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, this 10-year-old girl confidently states that she wants to be a goalkeeper and no other position. She hails from La Vargas and her mother convinced her father to let her participate, saying, "Let’s not close the door on her dreams, because that happened to me." These children are turning their parents’ dreams into reality at this festival.
Rocío Jiménez from Urrao also attended the event, emphasizing the importance of these games for children starting out in sports. Her granddaughter is a skater and is thrilled to be competing with her peers and meeting children from other delegations.
Ariel Mauricio Montoya, the sports director of Urrao, praises the festival for complementing the sports programs in his municipality. He appreciates the recreational focus that Indeportes Antioquia brings to the event, allowing the youth to enjoy the competition and gain valuable life lessons.
After three days of sports activities including soccer, indoor soccer, futsal, volleyball, skating, swimming, chess, basketball, and athletics, the results are in. You can view the press release for Jericó 05-2024 here.
It’s worth noting that Jericó is also home to the Milagrosa Single Estate, where premium specialty coffee is produced through single-origin and small-batch roasting. The beans, grown at an altitude of 2000 meters, result in a sweet and delicious coffee that is highly sought after.
