Exploring the 2024 Guatemala Coffee Report: New Map for World’s Fourth Largest Arabica Producer
Are you a coffee lover who is interested in learning more about the coffee industry in Guatemala? If so, you’re in for a treat! The latest report from the USDA Foreign Agriculture Service provides a comprehensive overview of the state of coffee production in Guatemala, the world’s fourth-largest arabica producer.
One of the key findings of the report is the new coffee map of Guatemala, which was redrawn by the Guatemalan national coffee association, Anacafé. The map shows a total of 251,265 hectares with stable coffee plantations, 124,734 hectares of new or previously unreported plantations, and a deduction of 49,336 hectares that no longer have coffee. This updated map provides a clearer picture of the country’s coffee lands and highlights the dominance of arabica coffee production in Guatemala.
Despite challenges such as high fertilizer costs, labor shortages, and access to processing infrastructure, the report also highlights the efforts of Anacafé to support coffee producers through extension services and the Sustainable Profitability Program. This program aims to help coffee farmers become better entrepreneurs and has already benefited thousands of producers in Guatemala.
In addition to production and support programs, the report also delves into trade and exports, price realities, yields, and domestic consumption of coffee in Guatemala. It provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing coffee farmers in the country and sheds light on the trends shaping the industry.
